Driver for I915 GM graphics card in LINUX DEBIAN...plz help
hi,
I own a dell inspiron 6000 with standard hardware. It comes with a Intel 915 GM graphic card. I installed Dedian Sarge DIstro on my dell Laptop. the X server is not starting as it gives me an error on the screen and gives a prompt of not recognizing my Graphics card i.e. the startx command is not working . Can anybody suggest me the way to get debian started (desktop environment) on my laptop and I am a newbie as well to linux. But i can manage the problems so please help me and will be greatly appreciated.
If you are that new, please consider trying
Ubuntu, which is a version of Debian that usually works with everything. Debian Sarge is old hat nowadays :)
I use a Dell Latitude 120L which runs XP as well as Zenwalk 2.6. Everything is almost ready now except for the wireless NIC. It uses the same graphics card as yours, but the only problem I had was that it would got give the native 1280x800 until I added an utility called 915resolution.
You may also want to try
Zenwalk yourself, in which case, I will be more able to help, since that's my flavour of Linux. :)
Have fun,
EP

apt-get update and it downloaded the updates in which it unpacked the driver for i810 graphics card which UBUNTU considers as i915 well me still not able to configure Wireless NIC which is u will have to make some directories for the drivers and i dont know how do to it . If u know that will be of great help and one more thing the MSN messenger client for linux in aMSN. When i run the set up it gives me a dependency error (tcltls) i have updated this is synaptics but still it gives me the same error if anybody knows the solution to this problem thank you very much.
