Is someone know if it's possible to obtain a notebook from DELL without any OS pre-installed ?
This question because i'm a gentoo linux user interested by an XPS m1710, but not by the price of a software i will never use :-(
Nah, i dont beleive it's possible unless you want to pack up your uzi and go down to the dell factory and personally request it... or here's a quick site with non-Dell laptops that might be beneficial: http://mcelrath.org/laptops.html
No, but you can get a Dell with Windows and then follow a process to get a refund for the price of Windows by returning Windows to Dell. By never booting up Windows you can get a refund for the price Dell paid for XP.
Thank you for this solution but this is something I wont do : too long, to much energy to spend for something witch should be easy !!!
Actualy, the only good solution I can see is not to get a Dell until they deliver it without windows. I realy don't understand them, they propose their computers with a lots a hardware option but nothing on the OS side.
Please Mr Dell, just add a check box "without OS" just after winXP home, winXP Pro, winXP ...
Howdy
Dell does sell systems with out a os, and has done for a while if my tired old brain remembers right.

The N series is at the bottom right of the small business page of desktops
