can't log in please help!!
Recently my business had a dell Dimension L500R down in the Marina division. We had to close that part of our division, so I moved the computer to this office. I went to log in and set it up on our network. The problem is that I think I know the right password but not the user name to get into the main part of the computer. I can't re-due everything because I can't loose all the files that are on that computer only from our Marina. I have called the few people that have had access to this computer but they say they don't remember the login. Is there any way to get it without ruining everything. Maybe in the registry? Please help, I really need this up and running.

What dbramlet is talking about is the BIOS password. This doesn't seem to be the problem for you since it is asking for a username and password. Is this the Windows login or the Network login that is coming up? Search around on this message board, as others have posted solutions, I just can't remember them right now.
Steve - If I hit cancel it goes back to the hit control alt delete to login. There is no button for options and I have tried leaving it blank. I called the Dell teck support and they said something about deleting the password list, but when they sent the business the computer it had windows 98 on it and we installed Windows NT on it so now they won't help I tried calling Microsoft and they don't know what I am talking about. Now I know that in windows 98 you keep hitting the f8 key. We had the word administrator for login to override it but it is not working. So is there basically nothing that I can do if I can't get pass this log in. I can set it up on the network once I get in, I just can't get into the computer itself.
- As I recall, the security on Windows 95, 98, and ME is not that high, and it is possible to get rid of the password by deleting the .pwl file. But Windows NT is a very different story, i.e. it is made to be much more secure. I visited the Microsoft Knowledge Base and found a document that basically said that under no circumstances would Microsoft divulge to anyone how to get around password protection. My advice is to go to Deja.com and search newsgroups for "password" and "NT". Good luck.
Steve - Honestly I don't know what I did really, I have been working on this thing for about two days and I was getting a little ticked off. I just starting hitting some buttons a bunch of times and a black screen came up with all this information on it. Well in our systems we have about 10 different drives for the network and all, and in one of them we have a folder for the users and passwords and I found the folder and got the password of the last person on it. I guess I just got really lucky. I wish I knew what I was hitting been that screen popped up. Anyway thank you for trying to help me.
