Does the 9100 use Raid drivers or is a Raid machine?
The Service Tag number is CTX5181. I know that in the Bio it says Raid On at every Startup, but I'm not too familiar with the 9100.

- Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver (at OS install time only)Click this link
This is a self extracting utility and will extract its contents (Windows XP driver files) to a folder in the following location c:\Dell\Drivers\. You must copy the content to a floppy diskette. These drivers are only to be used at OS installation (operating setup time) time.
At the beginning of the operating system setup, press F6 to install a third party SCSI or RAID driver.
1. When prompted, select 'S' to Specify Additional Device.
2. When prompted, insert the floppy disk you created in step 2 and press Enter.
3. At this point you should be presented with a selection for one of the following depending on you hardware version and configuration:
- Intel(R) 82801GR SATA RAID Controller
- Intel(R) 82801GR SATA AHCI Controller
- Intel(R) 82801FR SATA RAID Controller
- Intel(R) 82801FR SATA AHCI Controller
4. Highlight the selection that is appropriate for the hardware in your system and press Enter.
5. Press Enter again to continue. Leave the floppy disk in the system until the next reboot as the software will need to be copied from the floppy disk again when setup is copying files.

Okay, thank you. Does this mean I should make a Raid driver on a floppy disk if Windows ever needs to be reinstalled?robinhood42

I will print the instructions out and make a floppy disk and put it away until the time comes that I need it. I've heard some people say that you don't need to use one, but I prefer to have one on hand rather than not having it when I need it.
Thank you for the help.
Robin
if you want to use raid option be sure that you have 2 HDD otherwise just turn it off...

Rick000 already mentioned this, why do you people feel the need to repeat the same information, besides being rude and frowned upon, it is insulting to the original poster, do you think they are farsighted and require help posted twice, or does Rick need his post backed-up before it can be accepted.Dell at one time removed these type of posters. I am not attacking, an observation, just can`t understand it, are you not reading what others have posted before replying or you prefer seeing your name under every other post, what is it? I would love a valid answer to this other than "cuz" from the pre-schoolers.X-Rogue- I'm not attacking, either, but why is a fairly new member trying to tell older members how to be proper members of the forum?
"Dell at one time removed these type of posters."
I'll take your word for it, but it seems kind of suspicious that you would know that. I will give you the benifit of the doubt and say that you searched that far back for something and found this out. However, there's still some suspicion in my mind.
Remember, I'm not attacking. No attack intended, I simplly want a valid answer as to why?
But you have got to be kidding about the new-old comment, what difference does it make time wise when speaking about common courtesy to rick and the original poster, rick does not need his posts backed-up by you, me, him or anyone else and most people don`t have to read the same thing twice from two different people to get the picture. Repeating is bad in any forum, everyone knows that even you.
Just because the post count is small doen`t mean people have not been around reading the forum for a few months, you should know that and too I am surprised you are still around after that post about taking advantage of Best Buy with the hard-drive, did you not know that would be be reported and deleted, you must have nine lives ;)

(edit) I`m not picking on cmisidro in general but a number of the so-called newbies trying to make name for themselves, you see posts with three or four people saying the same thing, hours later. Read all of the thread. It is insulting to the first person that gave the information and the poster seeking help.Message Edited by X-Rogue on 08-10-2005 12:18 PM
- RobinHood42: Please note:Assuming you have not changed any BIOS setting or re-loaded the OS you should be ready to setup RAID without re-loading the system. Please note you should purchase a diskette drive in the event you need to re-load since the drivers needed to re-install from scratch have to be loaded from a diskette.Best to Buy another drive that is the same as the orginal one. Same make and model. If it bigger I think that will work too.
- Install the new drive.
- Then go into the Intel Application Accelerator (May be a different name on the 9100) is located in control panel on my XPS Gen 2.
- Pick the option to Migrate to RAID 1 or RAID 0. I would recommend RAID 1 unless you like playing with fire. RAID 0 disk failure will cause all data to be lost on the RAID volume. The migration will take about 60-90 minutes depending on the size of the disk. If you go with RAID 0, you can create anotehr patition from your free space on the RAID volume.
Hope this cleared it up. - Install the new drive.

This is your HARD DRIVE, 250GB, Serial ATA, 7.2K, 8MB, Maxtor Calypso
You need another HARD DRIVE just like it to have a RAID configuration
