I want to get advice regarding supported CPUs which could be installed on Optiplex 780 intead of
Pentium DualCore E5500 2.8Ghx2 which currently i got..
According to specs:
Dell Optiplex 780 Motherboard. Dell Part# 200DY 0200DY Featuring Intel Chipset LGA775. The Intel board harnesses the advanced computing power of the latest Intel Pentium 4 LGA775 processor supporting Hyper-Threading Technology.
Specifications:
Processor Type:
Intel Core 2 Duo; FSB up to 1333 MHz
Intel Core 2 Quad; FSB up to 1333 MHz
Intel Pentium Dual Core; FSB up to 1066 MHz
Intel Celeron; FSB up to 800 MHz
Memory Type: DDR3 SDRAM
Memory Capacity: 1 GB or 2 GB non-ECC
Minimum Memory: 1 GB
Maximum Memory: 8 GB
My intention is to upgrade CPU to Quad Core.
If so, which quad core cpus does motherboard support ?

SFF power supply is too small and it doesnt have copper heatsink by default.
RW134 Copper heatpipe Heatsink is for DESKTOP no idea about SFF.

Bios may not be proper level as well.
OK I found the SFF heatsink

"Bios may not be proper level as well."
This one i afraid the most if bios just won't recognize it. But i think should be because motherboard supports such CPU.
Also regarding power it is not a bottleneck for sure, according to Intel data-sheet E5500 has 65Watt and Q9650 95Watt. So only 30 watts more.
Tower has 305W power supply, Desktop has 270W power supply SFF has 220W power supply. If one version of bios worked for all processors there wouldn't be later versions with new microcode. There are in fact 15 revisions of the bios that I see. They always start at A00.

OptiPlex 780 Technical Specifications
The quads require the COPPER performance heatsink.
Some also mod the case for smaller units due to overheating.
