Virus help?

My Dell isn't more than 3 weeks old, its a P IV with 1.8GHz, has Geforce 2 with 64MB , and either me or my roomate downloaded some file that was infected with the Klez.H.Worm virus... I am a college student so I can't really afford to pay for an anti-virus subscription, and need to know if there's a free downloadable program that I can use to clean my PC of this infestation.
Right now, for some reason, the virus is causing all of my visual programs to lag. My friend plays visual games like half-life and Everquest, and they all move-freeze-move-freeze. I know its not the connection I have, because my screensaver of rotating marquee freezes and lags too. This leads me to believe the virus has infected something in the video area.
I dont know lots about PCs but I need help. People keep telling me to reformat, but if I do so, it will be easier said than done. The wireless card that I purchased isnt compatible with windows XP drivers, too. *curses win XP*
Oh, the virus has infected my system memory...I need to know, can that be fixed? I do use a program I downloaded called Protector Plus, and it says repeatedly *cannot disinfect*... It also daily detects at least 35 new infected files...the first day i scanned, it was 107.. Any help you can offer would greatly be appreciated. Thank you for your time :O)

Sincerely,
Kerry Sullivan

    Kerrybian,

You can get a removal tool here.

Your computer came with an AntiVirus program and a year's subscription to signatures is only $9.95. Even for a college student, that seems like a reasonable price to pay for protection from this kind of aggravation.

Kerry, Imo you can not afford to be without a virus protection program. Running a PC without it is tempting fate. Go to this site to get rid of worms: http://www.sarc.com/ Kip

I will second everything that olefin has said. Very good and problem free antivirus program from AVG. I think the reason it is free is because they are trying to make inroads into the US market in the war against Symantec and McAfee and therefore want to get the word out about their products.

    Hi

Marvin give you the site for AVG anti virus, it is good.

I have run it for years with no problems on my older IBM.
Free updates, they always notify by email, about every month.
Both my daughters have it on their computers.

When Norton subscription runs out I will have it on this Dell.

Not only is Grisoft's free AVG excellent, it seems to get updates out there days earlier than Norton, and (so far) I've never had to deactivate any of it's protections in order to download, or install, anything. The user interface is also quite simple to understand.

Okay, things were going well, but as soon as I tried to disable the system restore, it said "System restore encountered an error in trying to disable/enable one or more drive. Please restart your computer and try again" I restarted and got the same error, what did I do wrong?

Your "3" week old Dell came with some form of AV in it. All you got to do os turn it on and get it working for you ALL the time.
