bluetooth causing bsod?

im a happy owner of an xps 1330 and so far things have been going well except for an occasional blue screen of death which i find very strange. It would appear especially when i shut down the laptop and especially when i switch on and off the bluetooth switch. i will get a 'dumping memory' with a countdown, then it says: stop: deaddead (oxooooooooooo) (oxoooooooooo)

it will then go into a safe mode with an option to start the computer normally, once i select that choice, then it goes back to its normal life as if nothing is wrong.

some say, it has something to do with the bluetooth, others say it has something to do with the hard drive. i personally have no idea. i would appreciate any help or enlightenment.

thanks in advance.

There is a known incompatibility of the 6.0.1.3100 Bluetooth Stack driver shipped by dell resulting in BSOD when using Head Set Profile:

Fix is provided in link above. You fault seems to be more related to on/off switching of BT.

I have had the same problem.  On occasion on shutdown I get the BSOD with exactly the same errors.  I do use a Bluetooth mouse.  I thought with SP1 update it might go away.  But it has happened once since then.

I will check out the fix.  Thanks for the info.

The fix I mentioned only replaces the Headset Profile part. I doubt it will provide any benefit for a BT mouse.

I have also SP1 installed. And if I browse to "HID conform mouse" device driver which is attached to the Bluetooth module I recognise:

    mouhid.sys 6.0.6000.16386
    mouclass.sys 6.0.6000.16386

These should be the drivers for the BT mouse. Both have the release number of Vista RTM (without SP1). Though SP1 is installed whose drivers start with 6.0.6001.xxxx. That just means: At this part not much has changed in SP1. And I guess you need to continue searching for the source of the BSOD.

@edsol: How much different is your installation from the stock dell installation regarding drivers and OS?

We are talking about Vista, aren't we? BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) may have many reasons. The most prominent ones are:

    . heat

    . driver incompatibility

    . faulty memory modules

Just provide some more information about your system (hardware and drivers) this will help to find the source.

My system is pre tty much out of the box.  Except updated to SP1 with no problems.  But it happens only on shutdown.  Pre SP! and twice now afterwards SP1 installed.  I don't think it's a temp issue since I have checked that already and is within normal.  It never really runs hot.  Done hardware diagnosrics a couple of times now.  No issues there either.  The drivers are the same as shipped as there is no newer ones available.

Having installed the stock dell drivers is the best idea for failure tracking.

To be really sure to account the bluetooth driver for it, I would disable bluetooth and use the touchpad and observe whether it still crashes. I know it's annoying, but as far as I can see there is no software update to anything:

. dell truemobile 355 firmware: this one comes within the dell bluetooth archive. It's pretty up to date.

. windows part of the bluetooth stack: e.g. the mouse stuff belongs to this as mentioned above. I can't find more uptodate drivers.

. widcomm part of the bluetooth stack: You can't install Broadcomm's generic Widcomm stack that easy. Licensing always bundles the widcomm stack with specific hardware and patching is not that easy. However up to date drivers are available here (and beta drivers in their forum):

    http://www.anycom.com/products/bluetooth_it_pc_accessoires/anycom_usb_250_usb_adapter/?id=102&partno=CC3036&tab=support

It may be a good idea to replace a specific part of the bluetooth stack with a more uptodate version, but only once you know the faulty part.

actually my installation is basically the stock one as when i received the laptop. im using vista home premium and for a month i have have updating my laptop everytime i get updates. before i thought it was due to a faulty installation of a program or something, then i started to think it has someting to do with the bluetooth because sometimes when i switch off the bluetooth and the wifi coz i wanna connect using the LAN,now and then i will get the bsod.

But then here is the strange thing, whether it is a faulty installation or a bluetooth thing, i always get the same message when i get the blue screen of death warning. same code (stop:deaddead oxooooooooo)
