Broken Fan Affecting Processor Speed

Inspiron 8200: one of two fans is inoperative (not seized, just not spinning). Since this occurred, my processor speed seems very, very much slower - slower than my P166. Is this coincidental or is there a link between the two? TIA PetC

There's a link. The P4 throttles down when the temperature rises. Replace the fans (they come as a set). It's not a trivial exercise on this model, however.

Thanks for this ejin62. I presumed so but also thought that despite my full-featured AntiVirus software, I just might have some obscure nine eleven anniversary virus. I have been going throuh all the hoops trying to confirm no viruses - from killing all that software off and using a different anti-virus software to confirm I am OK. I of course had thoughts of buying a new computer if BOTH the problems wer not connected. I also viewed the fan replacement process and see it is a big job but for fifty bucks and a little time I should be able to get it done. Much appreciate your prompt, wise and diligent response, ejin.
