Lag issues

Hi. I'm having trouble running World of Warcraft and sometimes even media players without it lagging.  I've tried reformatting and it still doesn't run that well. I have a pentium 4 and a gig of ram and it should be enough to play the game, but the game lags really bad sometimes.  I am not running any other programs at the same time. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. thanks!

What model system is it, and what video card do you have?

A lot of the P4-based systems like the 51xx have severe overheating problems. Couple that with the relatively weak video and you have a recipe for lagging.

Do you have the power saving set to full power? The 5160 defaults to half the 3.06GHz when the OS isnt under load. Set it to full power under the control panel so that it doesnt switch to 1.59GHz.

Also, what video drivers are you running? The Dell default is good..but you might want to look at laptopvideo2go.com's benchmarks on all nVidia driver versions released for the Go5200.

I had the same issue, I very carefully removed the fans/vent inserts and cleaned out the heatsink, which was coated with burnt dust. Also cleaned out the fans and vents. Popped them back in, fired up the laptop, whamo awesome FPS. ONLY YOU CAN PREVENT LAPTOP FIRES
