Problem with Inspiron 6000 Display

Well, I just bought Inspiron 6000 notebook a little over a year ago.  I use it all the time and haven't had any problems with the display the entire time.  Today around 5 minutes after I started it up the display greatly darkened and started making a high pitched humming sound.  Does anyone know what might be wrong with it and if it could be fixed?  Also if I could fix it myself that would be great, but if I needed to have some guys come to fix it how much would that cost?

No it won't, that's not the problem.  I'm not quite sure what happened, but there is definately something wrong with the screen itself.  I'm using a separate monitor atm but I need the screen fixed if I'm going to go somewhere else.

sounds like it's either a failing lcd backlight or inverter.

If it's under warranty, call Dell.

If not, call an LCD repair shop - they can replace the bulb and/or rebuild the inverter for the same price - about $100-150.
