Slow computer

I don't know how else to describe it, but my computer kind of stalls every minute or so, like it is gathering itself.  I purchased an Inspiron 5150 less than a month ago, and ever since I got it, it has had this problem.  Is this normal???  Everything I read about the 5150 was great; how it is extremely fast.  My hard drive is 80% free.  Just a couple of examples: I can't watch a DVD b/c it pauses every minute.  I thought it was the disc, but I tried many and it still happens.  And when I type, it won't record what I type every minute or so, and then it will catch up after a pause.  It is very annoying.  I would appreciate any help you could give me.

Thanks

    Easy way:

Download AdAware and scan your hard drive for spyware. Remove all that is detected. Also, run a antivirus software and check for viruses.

    Hard way (but better):

Reinstall Windows. This consists of formatting your hard drive and resetting everything back to defaults. This means that you will lose all the data on your hard drive. Make sure that you backup any important data before formatting. You should find that your computer will perform very fast.

Thank you for your help.  I did everything in the easy way.  I did a Norton Virus Scan, I did a Webroot Spysweeper scan and I did an Adaware scan.  I did all of these twice.  And still, if I am typing, it pauses, and the dvd's still skip.  What gives?
