You do not have to install the specific card drivers in the Virtual Machine under VMware.  You should only install the VMware tools in the Virtual Machine.  When you install VMware, it installs network drivers that bridge the specific network interfaces in the server (or laptop) to the generic interfaces in the Virtual Machine.

Once you install VMware, open the VMware Server Console and click on Host --> Virtual Network Settings.  The "Host Virtual Network Mapping" maps the VMnet devices to the physical devices.  It only maps on startup so it may not have picked the right adapter on the laptop which is why you don't see the network.  Change the VMnet0 adapter to point to your active network atapter on your laptop.  Broadcom (wired) or Intel (wireless) will connect the VMware client to the network.

On the Virtual Machine, edit the settings and pick the "Network connection" you want.

Bridged - The virtual machine appears to be directly connected to the network.  Try this first.
NAT - The virtual machine uses the address of the host.  If Bridged doesn't work, try this.
Host Only - You can only talk to the host.  Also no one can access the Virtual Machine
Custom - I've never needed this.

If you want to run 64bit operating systems, you need to set the virutalization bit in the BIOS.  Press on boot and navigate into the BIOS settings until you see where to enable the bit.  I run 64bit Ubuntu on my 32bit XP Pro D-830 with no problems.

    Guten Abend

    Hi,

    thanks for the answer :smileyhappy:

I do not work with VM Server. I have VM Workstation.

Under VM Ware > Manage Virtual Networks > Host virtual network settings i can not choose the Dell Broadband Card. (I installed the Card Utility)

I test yet when I highlited the check under automatic bridging > automaticly choosen an available network adapter....
Then I start the UMTS Connection and when i boot the VM Ware Session, the connection is disconnected.
When I first start the Session, the Broadband Card Utility will not be applicable the hardware.

Has anyone a idea, pleas help :smileysad:

I suspect the Broadband card is not really a "network" card but is emulating a network.  It may actually look more like a modem than a true network which probably makes it incompatible with VMware.

Since you have an official version of VMware, you might try asking VMware support if they have any suggestions on how to talk to the Broadband card.  They may have some unsupported suggestions or something that might help.  You might also post the question here in the VMware community.
