XPS M1730 HELP PLEASE!!!
Hi, me again,
Something terrible has happened, i have got a virus, it seems to be in the root directory it is called lsmass.exe.
Anyway now i cant use my G3 device on my system and it is the USB that is mucking up
Can anyone tell me how to fix this up or tell me what drivers and where to get them to make the USB work again?
Please keep in mind that my Win7 ultimate disk and ALL of my dell disks were stolen so i CANNOT lose this installation
I meant to do a mirror image but (through sheer stupidity) i didn't do it.
Any ideas anyone?

Hi,
Welcome to the Community. Were you able to remove the Virus? Turn on the computer, press the F8 key at the Dell Logo, select Safe Mode With Networking, once you log in, log on to the internet, and download Malwarebytes. Use this software to run a scan and remove infections. Once its removed all the infections restart your computer.
The Chipset Driver controls the USB ports, use the below link to install them.
This is a Vista Driver, but should work for Windows 7 as well, since the support site does not have drivers for Win 7: www.dell.com/.../DriverFileFormats

Hi,
Since you use a USB stick to connect to the internet, it will not work in safe mode. Windows will reinstall the USB root hubs automatically after you restart your computer, this is by design.

Hi Royan,
No i didnt remove it and it got past malwarebytes already
but i havent tried doing it from safe mode, and i cannot get onto the internet in safe mode, i tried yesterday

I just have a pre-paid USB stick
at the moment i am accessing the net from my desktop in the recording studio, but this is an old machine and i need the other one to use for my recording
If i delete the USB root hubs in the device manager wont it need to be reloaded or something? sorry but i have no idea what i am doing here

Hi,
How do you connect to the Internet, wired or wireless? Did you try safe mode with networking and then log on to the internet? If its a USB Wireless Device, then the USB ports will not have full funtionality in safe mode to access the internet.
Try removing the USB root hubs in the device manager, click on start, right click on computer, click in properties, click on device manager, click on the symbol next to Universal Bus Controllers, right click on USB root hub and click on uninstall, your will see more than one, uninstall all of them, restart your computer, and then connect the 3G device.
