I recieved my 2407 on Wednesday from Mexico, A03. I was happy at first, but I began to notice the same problem. Jagged edges in some spots and screen jittering when the camera is panning in-game. All of this through a component connection with my xbox 360 (720p, playing N3). However, I watched a DVD through it and there were no problems. Must have something to do with the 720p? Anyways, sorry I can't offer much. But I'm sure one of the nice knowledgable guys here will be quick to respond =). I'm thinking about returning too.

I'll accept the jagged edges is normal behaviour, I guess it's easy to get bogged down with tests without thinking about the real world. Thanks for the explanation.

All the banding tests I did where in desktop mode. I did as you suggested and switched to gaming mode and did indeed see 'very bad' banding. The banding on the 'bad' DVI output is not as severe as in gaming mode on the 'good' DVI output

Just out of curiosity I'll swicth to the DVI output on my Ti4200 and report the level banding from that card on DVI.

Well what an interesting result. I connected my older PC using the Ti4200 via the DVI and there is no banding. If really try to see I can just on red, but on the other colours and black to white I can't see any banding in desktop mode. If I switch to gaming mode banding is awfull.

I connected my new PC to the VGA input via a DVI to VGA convertor. There is no banding at all from either DVI output in desktop mode when connected to VGA via the convertor. In gaming mode it is slightly banding.

So I guess the conclusion has to be that the panel is able to display with no banding on DVI (Ti4200). What is interesting is that both DVI outputs on the GT 6600 display banding, although one output is better. I wonder if a change of driver will make any difference?

Conclusion regarding banding:

I have decided for the time being to keep my old PC with the Ti4200 connected via DVI. My new PC with the GT6600 is now connected via a DVI to VGA convertor and connected to the 2407 VGA input. The picture quality is absolutely indistinguishable from VGA to DVI. I had to set timing to 'GTF' in the Nvidia control panel to achieve this.

So I now have both PCs connected as before except via different inputs, but I have no banding at all now.

A good result!

Thanks for the link AtF. I read this one already, but after my purchase. I kind of rushed into it going by the mainstream reviews. I'm going to be purchasing the VGA cable tomorrow, and I'll find somewhere to post my results.

The card should be O.K and what you are describing is the ability of the panel to write or turn on pixels as fast as it can and turn off pixels as fast as it can without trailing or ghosting wider than the line it is writing. It's normal from my point of view. My Mexico A03's do what you are describing. If I drag a Word window around fast, it'll do the same thing around the box lines. Even my 19" Trinitron CRT does it if I drag it fast enough.

I'm starting to see a lot of posts, including mine, that one DVI out is better than the other in regards to banding. I have no banding in one DVI out and very slight in the other DVI. I have a GeForce TI 4600 running two 2407’s.

If you want to see what bad banding looks like, set 2407 it to Gaming mode look at gradients light to dark. That’s bad. When you said bad banding in desktop in one DVI output was it that bad as gaming mode, because my slight banding in the bad DVI out is still very minimal compared to Gaming mode.

Yes use the latest drivers, it did help display appearance upgrading video driver for a 6800GT.

LCD vertical banding is a flaw that can occur in the manufacturing process of the LCD panels themselves, and some LCD panels will tend to manifest it more noticeably than others. The panels that cause the most visible problems are usually weeded out in the vendor's quality control process.
However, those that create just a hint of banding often pass through QC, since it is prohibitively expensive to discard all parts that exhibit flaws which may have no practical impact on picture quality.

So, we end up with a situation in which some LCD panels, even within a given production run on one model, will have no banding at all, some may have a hint of it that does not rise to the level of a significant issue, and some may have a more visible problem that really does impair the enjoyment of the viewing experience. In the latter case, sometimes the problem can be mitigated with internal adjustments made by the dealer or vendor service departments, and sometimes the LCD panels or the entire unit need to be replaced.

And add DVI out issues, various video cards, overdrive, color contrast chip trade off, all can produce banding to some degree. With all those variables involved, it amazes me that my 2407's look that good.

Played XBox360 through VGA today. Noticed slight banding from green to black, some jaggies. Nothing too bad. All that's left is for me to check DVI, though I have no way of doing so. Assuming the DVI input is fine from the other posts, I guess I'll be keeping this one..
