I 'm facing problem to backup the VSS SYSTEM SERVICES:\ from the backup server, eventhough it completes successfully when I run a manual backup from the client side.
The Client is running Windows 2003 and the Networker version is 7.4.4
The backup from the server fails with inactivity timeout error.
You can try a backup of the SYSTEM DB: with the VSS:*=off. If this fails too, then try a client initiated backup of the VSS SYSTEM SERVICES:\ saveset. If the client initiated backup fails too then this might be because of the "Removable media" service, ensure that this service is set to disabled on the client. On the other hand if the client initiated backup of this saveset succeeds then this is a permission issue. The "LOCAL SYSTEM" user might not have the permissions required for this backup. In the client properties of that client uder "Apps&Modules" put in the user name/password of any user who is an administrator on that client and then try a backup. This should work. But, why the LOCAL SYSTEM user account is not able to do the backup of SYSTEM DB/ VSS SYSTEM SERVICES is not known to me. I hope comeone from the EMC L2 team can shed some light on this one.

Have a look at:
How to modify the "Inactivity Timeout" attribute for a NetWorker Group (savegrp) resource

This will explain to you why you are getting this error message and how to fix it.
