I have an Optiplex 970 SFF. I wanted to add OpenCL capability. The Radeon 7550 was recommended as giving me what I needed and staying within the capabilities of the 240w power supply. However, when installed the PC does not complete bootup. It says boot process has halted and that the newly installed card and onboard graphics can't be used at the same time. That's fine...I don't need to run both. But I could not find any information on how to disable the integrated graphics. There is nothing in the BIOS to control it. Disabling it in Windows does not change anything. Just looking for options.
Is there a way to disable the onboard card?
Is there a different way to gain OpenCL features? (Latest drivers already installed)
Is there a different card that would work that would not require disabling the integrated card?
When you tried to boot, did you make sure nothing was plugged into the on-board video connectors?
I think on-board video is disabled automatically if a GPU card is detected. Probably no bios setting needed. So, your monitor(s) should only be plugged into the new video card.
What donm4599x said. Here's someone resolving this same issue by doing just that (disconnecting any video cable(s) from the integrated video system and only connecting a video cable to the add-in graphics card).
Thank you for your reply. Yes. Nothing was connected to the integrated board. I have just one monitor, so there was no choice. Only the Radeon board was connected using the same HDMI cable and HDMI to Display Port adapter that I use with the integrated video device normally (which should eliminate either of those two being the culprit).
As a test, I shut down and tried plugging into the integrated board (only) while the Radeon board was installed and got the message about not being able to have both graphics devices going at once and that the system boot had halted. In both cases, only one monitor and cable/adapter were connected to one graphics device data a time. In both cases, the sounds, vibrations, and time-spans of boot, spin-up, and spin-down were the same.
When the monitor was connected to the Radeon board, the indicator light on the monitor continued to flash as it does when connected to the integrated board before it lights up on the screen. Makes me think it's waiting for a signal it never gets, probably because the integrated board is not automatically disabled, OR the Radeon board is simply not putting out a display port signal. The Radeon board did come out of a fully functional system.
