Upgrading 2950 III

I have a Dell 2950III in production that is running out of CPU and memory.

Spec: 2 x Dual Core Xeon 3.0,  4Gb ram

I have a spare unit

Spec: 2 x Quad Core Xeon 2.5, 8Gb ram

My question is it safer to move the CPU and memory from the spare unit, or is it safer to move the raid controller and drives?

Ok, I have realised that swapping CPUs is not an option, the original server is a original 2950 so will not support the newer servers CPUs.

Sounds like you figured out you situation, but to answer your question: It is "safer" to move the CPU, because it doesn't affect the data AT ALL. Moving the drives is completely safe when moving with the controller, but is more prone to user error. Moving the drives only to a new controller is also usu ally safe, but because more knowledge is needed to navigate more things that can go wrong, it is even more susceptible to human error than the other options.
