Network adaptor problem

PowerEdge 1600SC with single network adaptor.

Had network connection problems after an upgrade from SBS 2000 to SBS 2003. Using Ping, the Server could see clients and router, but not the other way around.

As part of several checks I wanted to see if network adaptor driver was up to date.  I uninstalled the driver, then stupidly (!) before reinstalling, I rebooted. Another suggestion regarding the overall problem had been made and I assumed that it would just find the appropriate driver during the reboot.

However I now have a situation where I cannot reboot into SBS as it stalls half way through, unless I access the setup utility (F2) and completely disable the network adaptor. Then SBS starts ok - however of course there is no network adaptor now listed in Devices in My computer.

How can I reinstall appropriate driver?

Thanks in anticipation.

    Thank you for your response.

I am not at the site at the moment as have no internet access there to research problem and check discussion responses, so cannot try.  I will try in about 40 minutes and repost. However my understanding from other research is that there isn't, so could you assume not for now!

I have downloaded to CD all likely up to date adaptors for this Dell build, although I can't be sure yet exactly which one I need. I'm hoping that there is enough information in the setup (F2) screen where I can enable/disable the adaptor to tell me.

On the Dell web site when I put in my build code it says 'gigabit ethernet intel PRO/1000mt (82544GC) controller'. However it also had alternatives of 'Intel pro 100+' and 'Intel pro 1000xt 10/100/1000'. The download site had a choice of Intel PRO Family, Intel PRO Gigabit and Intel PRO fast Ethernet adaptors - I downloaded all of them - just in case!

    Many thanks

    Problem solved...

    1) Patience. Eventually the SBS server did log in and I was able to load new and up to date drivers for the Network adaptor.

    2) The original problem was caused by the fact that the upgrade to SBS 2003 had renabled the server as a router. When this option was disabled - all was well. If any one wants details of where this option is deeply buried in SBS just reply to this post. I'm afraid Im not at the site when wroting this and can't remember!
