R640 very slow boot

Hello,

I have a Dell R640 server, which takes nearly 40 minutes to boot.

I have applied the latest Firmware Updates using

  • SUU-LIN64_22.07.200.504.ISO plus
  • iDRAC-with-Lifecycle-Controller_Firmware_RTTPH_LN64_5.10.50.00_A00.BIN
  • BIOS_NDFHH_LN64_2.15.1.BIN
  • Power_Firmware_JV7G6_LN64_00.30.C2.BIN

The Diagnostics inside the Lifecycle Controller didn't provide anything helpful.

I have replaced some of the disks, where smartctl said they are not good any more.

The timing of the boot is as follows (times stopped manually):

- Power Off
00:00
- Power on
00:18
- Initializing Intel Ultra Path
- Configuring Memory
00:54
- Configuring Memory ... done
- Loading BIOS Drivers...
01:35
- Initializing PCIe, USB and Video... Done
01:56
- black screen
04:19
- Boot Menu
04:31
- Broadcom NetExtreme
04:48
- FlexBoot
05:03
- blue boot screen
- BIOS Version 2.15.1
07:24
- Testing Memory
- Initializing Firmware Interfaces...
F2 = System Setup
F10 = Lifecycle Controller
35:09
- lots of messages in the status line, to fast to write down
- black screen
37:31
- Linux boot selector
38:29
- CentOS 7 is bootet

Any Ideas?

The one thing I still can do is to take the server apart and put things in one after another like in https://www.dell.com/community/PowerEdge-Hardware-General/R740xd-stuck-at-initializing-firmware-interface/td-p/7837471?dgc=SM&cid=243908&lid=spr4987669736&linkId=121485170 .

The server is four years old and out of support.
