MD3220i raid controllers

Hi,

I'm sorry if this is covered in the documentation but i havent found anything clear on the issue.

Do the raid controllers on the MD3220i  just load balance/share all the disks?  or do you have to assign a group of disks or a virtual disks to one of the controllers?

I'd like to try and spread the workload as evenly across the two controllers as I can.

Advice appreciated.

S.

A virtual disk is indeed owned by 1 controller at a time, so you split your virtual disks between the controllers to balance it out a bit. By default the virtual disks get assigned back and forth between the controllers.

Hosts should always be connected to both controllers. Keep in mind that each iSCSI port number needs to be on a different subnet.

This is why the factory default iSCSI IPs are:

    0-0: 192.168.130.101

    0-1: 192.168.131.101

    0-2: 192.168.132.101

    0-3: 192.168.133.101

    1-0: 192.168.130.102

    1-1: 192.168.131.102

    1-2: 192.168.132.102

    1-3: 192.168.133.102

So a server with 1 NIC (for iSCSI) should log into both controller 0 port 0 as well as controller 1 port 0.

I think i worked it out..... you create a disk group and change the ownership/preferred path to the appropriate raid controller?

So does that mean that it doesnt matter which ports on the controllers my hosts are connected to - they should be able to access the virtual disks as long as they're been permitted to do so?     I had thought that if controller 0 was in control of a virtual disk then a host would have to be plugged into ports on that controller?  but if vd's ared dynamically shared between both controllers - i can just plug the host into either controller ? or both?
