Adding second hard drive question

I have a 3 yr. old Dimension 4300 with Windows XP Home SP1, 1.6Ghz, Pent. 4, 512 mb memory.

First off I am a novice at this. The most I have done inside a pc was add a stick of memory so I apologize if this seems like a stupid question.  I am going to add a second hard drive.  I was looking at the instructions in the user guide and they read as follows:

   8.   Remove the first hard drive from the upper bay and install it in the lower bay:

  1. Gently slide the new hard drive into the upper bay until you hear a click.
The question I have is does the new hard drive have to go in the upper bay. Or are they saying to do this assuming that the user will want the new drive in the upper bay so as to use it as the master (boot) drive? And does that even matter because the drives will be set as cable select so it will depend on how they are connected to the cable? Right?

The new drive in the upper bay, the old drive in the lower bay. This is to properly run the IDE cable without
twisting. Your master (old drive) should be on the end connector and your slave (new drive) should be on the
middle connector. Both drives set to cable select. This assumes you wish to keep your old drive as the boot
    drive.

Thanks Marc. That clears it up.
