Anybody know whether HLDTST CDRW/DVD GCC4482 has any driver issues?

Can this drive write dvds or just read them?

    Hi Dan,

It is not my style to but-in once a Member starts working a thread, tends to be somewhat rude, disrespectful. So first my apologies to Stephanie, I simply would like to add a couple of things; then slide back into stealth mode and leave the thread to her. Your drive is a Combo device, a DVD-ROM (read only)/CDRW writer. It will read DVD amd CD media but only write to CD-R & CD-RW media. The drivers are generic to Windows Operating system, so there should not be any issues per say to "drivers". Dell has finally released firmware updates for the drive, if you are having problems with the drive, then you can find the latest here:
    GCC-4482B

    Best Regards

Thanks for the help. That would explain the difficulty in burning a dvd!

    Hi Stephanie,

I received your PM and dropped you a note. Dell finally did release a firmware update for the drive, so my comments in your link were dated.

    Best Regards

Well, right now I have the Optiarc DVD+RW AD-5540A ATA Device and it runs perfectly. No complaints whatsoever.

Then again, my CD/DVD drive is on a laptop and not a desktop computer.

    Hi Dan,

To add with Stephanie, browse New Egg. Our Members tend to like the Plextor, Lite-on, NEC drives to name a few.
Currently on the market for internal devices there are SATA and PATA (IDE) drives, you did not mention your system however the 4482B is a IDE drive so I dare say you will need to get another IDE drive as well.

    Best Regards
