What is the version of windows that's installed and the computer model?

If you have XP, the only procedure for changing the H: / boot drive [volume] assigned letter to C: / is to reinstall windows XP.

The Version of Windows is XP Home sp2, 2002. The computer model is a Dimension E520 with a media card reader installed. Can you tell me what part of installation makes this designation?

The very beginning of the installation designates the drive.  To change the drive letter to C: you must reload.

 

You can also disable the device in BIOS setup - that's quicker than unplugging it.  F2 at powerup.

Please pardon the intrusion, but before attempting the reinstallation it is important that you disconnect all devices that can possibly be assigned a drive letter with the exception of the drive you are installing to.  This includes your media card reader; just disconnect the cable from the motherboard until you have finished the install.  Reconnect when your installation is complete.

Windows setup inventories devices during the first part of installation and things like media card readers will be assigned drive letters ahead of the SATA devices.
