    >>>>>>That target LUN can be raid 1 while the source might be raid 5.

    You mean that vice versa is possible?

    Thanks,

    BMK

    Using Open replicator, I think so, but remember that OR, just like SAN Copy on Clariion needs 2 storage arrays. You cannot OR or SC from 1 box to the same box.

    2 way mirror can be converted to BCV.

    convert dev 1234 to BCV+R-5;

    Very short but correct answer

    Between Syms you could use open replicator to migrate data from a certain symdev or meta to a lun on the target. That target LUN can be raid 1 while the source might be raid 5.

    Oh, you mean from mirrored to unprotected ? I'm not sure, but I think you can. Why don't you try it ? Create a small mirrored BCV, sync it with some symdev, split it, try to convert to unprotected and see whether or not the data is still there. Since it was mirrored I think this is possible.

    From R5 to unprotected or from R5 to mirrored is not possible.

    I'd like to be sure too, but I'm not 100% sure....

    RRR, you can convert 2way mirr to BCV but not BCV & R5

    Krishna , even for the OR you have to have the OR licenses , it will be easier to have temp third dev. or clone if you use the same box , i guess you do.

    you type the below

    "2 way mirror can be converted to BCV. convert dev 1234 to BCV+R-5;"    as am sure its not possible so i was confirming !

    am out of office to test the BCV one, will try it soon, but i remember its an valid option with SMC .

    From mirrored to bcv-mirrored is possible. Not to BCV-raid5. My mistake, sorry. I was thinking 2 chapters ahead...

    The alternate is to delete the device and recreate as RAID5
