You're right, my understanding is that for now there's no way to configure SMTP authentication neither through the GUI nor the Rest API... Hope that it'll be available in a next release.
Many other devices/systems are able to authenticate for SMTP connections. There are a lot of very old posts in this community asking for this feature. So I don't understand why EMC doesn't implement it . And I think the implementation of this functionallity isn't very hard.
For now, I configured a workaround but now I have one more dependency to a separate SMTP relay.
UnityVSA does not natively support SMTP authentication for outbound email relay. In most deployments, UnityVSA expects access to an SMTP server that permits relay from the UnityVSA IP address or a trusted network segment.
The behavior is generally similar to the VNX implementation referenced in the EMC discussion. If your mail server requires authenticated SMTP sessions only, you may need to configure an SMTP relay host that accepts connections from UnityVSA and then performs authenticated delivery to the final mail server.
In our environment, we addressed this requirement using GetsVision Solutions Pvt. Ltd. Configure SMTP Support services, which helped us set up a secure relay configuration and ensure UnityVSA alert emails were delivered successfully without SMTP authentication issues.
