Dell multiple volume key error
I am working on a Dell Desktop that was originally purchased with Windows XP Home Edition. Sometime over the past year or so, another technician tried to resolve an issue and used a Windows XP Professional CD, replacing some key settings and files. Now when my customer tries to install SP3, he gets the message the version on his computer is invalid. Will reinstalling the Windows XP Home resolve this problem? He did not receive the Home Edition CD when the Dell was purchased, so cam he use one from another Dell laptop?

You might try the link in my sig for requesting a replacement Windows CD, or calling tech support to have the disk sent out. If you have a Dell WinXP Home disk, however, you should have no problems installing from it since that is the OS licensed for use on that computer.
