Installing Windows 98 on the 2400 is not a really good idea.  First, you will have to search out Windows 98 drivers for the devices on your machine.  Many of these may be found on the Intel web site, but others may be more problematic.  The two best things you can do are to (1) upgrade the memory to at least 256 Mb.  The sweet spot for Windows XP is 512 Mb.  (2) Get rid of Kazaa.  Kazaa loads all kinds of spyware that intereferes with the normal operation of your computer.  It is likely the spyware that is contributing to the slowness of your system.  If you get rid of the spyware, Kazaa will no longer run.  There are plenty of alternatives to Kazaa that don't come with the spyware and the risk of infections with viruses and trojans that are becoming even more common with files downloaded from Kazaa.  Explore the web site at www.spywareinfo.com for more informaiton on Spyware and what to do about it.  Also see the following site for information on how to get rid of the spyware - http://www.cjwd.demon.co.uk/compsafetyonline.htm

just on the side of settling on what craft have on the system.

 bizlimpkit is right its probably due to kazaa which is a resource hog with all the other spyware programs it installs . so even when you close kazaa there are like 5 programs still running secretly in the background

PrcView is a process viewer utility that displays detailed information about processes running under Windows. For each process it displays memory, threads and module usage. For each DLL  it shows full path and version information. PrcView comes with a command line version that allows you to write scripts to check if a process is running, kill it, etc

Messenger still is not allowing me to upgrade to 6 or over. Surely 4.7 is not the highest i can access with xp..the invalid win32 error keeps coming up whenever i try downloading anything higher.

There is no single program that gets rid of all spyware and parasites.  Follow the links in previous posts to understand why this is the case.  The spyware infectors evolve too quickly and most of the good programs that rid computers of this crud are free programs that written and maintained on small budgets.  Ad-Aware, Spybot, CWShredder, and HijackThis are the most commonly used and most effective programs to get rid of spyware, but each has its strengths and weaknesses.
