Help - XP will not reinstall from disc

HELP!

My pc gave up the ghost after one of my kids inadvertently downloaded a malicious virus. After all other attempts to repair the machine I decided to reinstall the operating system (Windows XP).

I am having problems with trying to reinstall XP from the cd disc supplied with my machine (dimension 2350). I followed all the instructions and I get to a stage in the process where the install would go no further. The screen reads 'estimated time 33 mins and installing devices'. I have left my pc on all night but nothing has progressed. Can anyone help?

kev, I finally got mine to work. I held in the power button to turn it off. when it rebooted I held down the control and tapped the f12 button. I ended up doing some things I knew nothing about like partitioning, I had to press the L button for something else and it finally passed the 33 min mark and I am elated. I dont remember all that I did but it all started from the ctrl+f12. Mine did the same thing and I booted it from the cd rom and went form there. I hope this helps you.

    Hi Cheryle,

Finally got mine to work booting from the xp disc again and not using the repair 'r' installation but a fresh installation that involved deleting my previous version of xp from the partition. This worked but I now have a problem with the screen resolution!!! It is massive on screen and the 'monitor' in 'display' option in 'control panel' is greyed out so i can not change the resolution.

    help..................................

i will read through the forums and see if i can find a fix....i'm no teccie but am learning fast...

I am having a problem also. Some of the old files did not delete and when I load programs it tells me that it is already installed. I dont know what to do now. at least the computer works. I cannot get on the internet yet so I am still using my g-daughters computer to get to the emails and other things. If you find out anything that will help me let me know. this computer is very slow and it takes awhile to do research. good luck and thank you.
