Inspiron 8000 Wireless Network Card Code 10 Error

Hi there!

I recently bought a used 8000 laptop which originally came with ME, but was upgraded to XP Pro.  I recently found out that it would have been better to do a full install rather than upgrade, but I believe an upgrade was done.  In any case, I have been trying to connect to the internet via ethernet or wireless card (to my home network with Dell desktop and Dell 8200 laptop) without success.  I realized that I only had a mini pci modem card and not the combo so then tried to connect via wireless card and after the install, received a "device cannot start (code 10)" message under the Device Manager.

Any idea what I can do to fix this?  I checked Microsoft's website and it indicated that there is a hotfix for ME.  Since I have XP Pro, I didn't know if this would work and if there is anything else I can do to fix this before contacting Microsoft.  Your help would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Upgrade installs invariably cause problems.  The hotfix for Windows ME is not likely to apply to Windows XP.  Did you install upgraded XP compatible drivers for the network device?
