Problem w/ Scanning function

I am using a Dell XPS 9100 running WIN7, 64 bit. I am connectied to an all-in-one HP 6500A printer via a USB port. Although I can print w/o any pb, the desktop will not recognize the HP unit when I attempt to scan. The same pb occurs when I use my EPSON scanner. I have contacted EPSON and HP and after some diagnostic tests, they both confirm that the pb is w/ the Dell installed software. Any idea as to how I can correct the pb?

I don't know what "Dell installed software" could even remotely cause the problem you are having.  That is a typical response, at least from HP, if a customer has a problem and they can't figure out what is wrong or don't want to take the time to figure it out.  They tell the customer it's your PC or some other made up reason and then the customer is left holding the bag trying to figure out what is wrong.

The first question, were the devices installed correctly (and fully)?

I have an Epson Artisan 835 all in one that is connected Via USB port to my Windows 7, 64 bit OS system.  When I installed the Epson, I first installed the various programs for it (including the Epson Scan) BEFORE I actually connected the Artisan 835 to the PC. Windows detected and installed and all works.   If you connect a printer (or all in one) to the PC first and either do not install any driver software or install the software after connecting either Windows can install incorrect drivers or the install will fail (or a portion fail).

When I scan with the Epson, I use the Epson Scan program.

    buffymaignan,

Do you have an OCR Program installed?

What virus program and firewall are you using?
