Thanks to whomever replies to this -- I can't live without y'all!
I received a reinstallation CD and reinstalled XP Home this afternoon. I also deleted all the partitions on my HD.
Now I find that my laptop cannot detect the hardware that came with my computer (speakers and modem for now, perhaps more that I have yet to discover) and the Stand-By/Hibernate function is suddenly disabled.
Is there anything any of you can suggest, or do I need to take my laptop to a professional?
Did you install the
ChipSet driver,
video driver and a few other drivers after the installation ? Give use the model number to your system first and we can direct you to the driver download site
And actually, I may be up a worse tree than I thought, because since my laptop doesn't recognize my modem, I can't go to the site to download the drivers and my father's laptop (which I'm typing this reply from) is an ancient Lattitude that doesn't have a CD burner.
Nevertheless, I have an Inspiron 1000 (which I guess they stopped making shortly after I purchased mine, because I don't see it in the catalog anymore), so if you have any other ideas, run them by me.
