I have a Inspiron 530 Desktop that is running Windows XP & i have a Windows Vista CD that came with a Inspiron N4010 Laptop that i had Windows 7 install on from the factory. My question is can i install the Windows Vista CD on the Desktop to replace the Windows XP OS?
Actually with the latest BIOS update applied to this model the SLP mechanism of the Dell Windows Vista Reinstallation DVD will work but this system will be incorrectly licensed.
Windows XP is obsolete. Windows Vista obsolete (no IE10/11, Office 2013 Support, no Digital Windows Vista media).
Windows 7 and 8.1 will be obsolete in Late summer as Windows 10 is released.
I hence recommend installing Windows 10 64 Bit Technical Preview on this system:

Technically you could, however you would not have an activated copy of Windows as you would have no Vista key for the Inspiron 530.
