If you are experiencing error messages along with the "freezes" it could provide some clues to the cause.  In lieu of that, a generic shot-in-the-dark might be to uninstall | re-install the program to see if it helps.  You may also wish to check what background programs are running as it's not impossible that either (1) your system resources are low and causing the WordPerfect problem or, (2) one of the other running programs are interfering with Wordperfect.  You can get some clues on managing your resources at the two links below.  The first is more or less, "Dell specific" and the latter is more comprehensive.

Thanks for answering. No error messages come up except some times a recovery message comes up. It doesn't happen upon opening only after I worked on it for a while.
