Go to Solutionm15 R7, SSD configuration 4TB
Hi,
I recently got my Alienware M15 R7 Intel variant with 512GB Gen4 SSD. In the manual, it says that M.2 2280 can be handled till 4TB. But nowhere its mentioned that it can handle 4TB per slot or overall.
Any one from Dell, sort this out please.

This from the M15 R7 support page owner's manual:
Your Alienware m15 R7 supports one of the following storage configurations:
● One M.2 2230/2280 slot for solid-state drive, for computers shipped with a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti graphics card
● Two M.2 2230/2280 slots for solid-state drives, for computers shipped with a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060/3070 Ti/3080 Ti
graphics card

Well, that didnt answer my question. May be i didnt mention the GPU variant. My alienware comes with 3060. In that respect, what can be the max support for each slot? Is it 2TB per slot with 4TB in total? Or 4TB per slot and 8TB in total?

Support for Alienware m15 R7 Storage says M.2 2280 PCIe Gen4 x4 NVMe SSD up to 4TB can be installed. (By default the slow internal M.2 SATA SSD cannot be installed.)
The Crucial System Advisor database provides the most recent Alienware m15 R7 | Memory RAM & SSD Upgrades | Crucial.com. Ultrafast 4TB M.2 2280 PCIe Gen 4.0 x4 NVMe SSD per slot can be installed. Samsung SSD usually includes Encryption option protection if laptop gets stolen. Automatic Windows Device Encryption or BitLocker on Dell Computers | Dell US.

Does it mean I can go with 2 4TB drives in both slots?
Also, I am getting a better deal from Dell for an upgrade, as 1/2/4TB cost the same. So wanted to know if I can shove in 8TB of storage in this laptop or not.

Hi @kd_ thank you for sharing question. Yes, 2 x 4TB = 8TB.

if its pcie gen 4 it can support 2 x2 tb

Have this same question. The manual is not clear enough regarding this info.
But for what I could understand and double checking with ChatGPT, it's 4TB per slot.
