AVE Installation

Has anyone else seen the following error when trying to run the tar xzvf command against the AVE tarball? It begins to extract and does extract four of the files but then errors out with the following:

gzip: stdin: unexpected end of file
tar: Unexpected EOF in archive
tar: Unexpected EOF in archive
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

I am doing this from putty on an ESX 3.5.0 Build 110181 host. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

No. My issue with 0.5 was that by reading docs I did get impression that you need 35GB for root disk, but it turns out you need more once you uncompress image (around 63GB). Once I fixed that I had no issues. I followed docs and had 3x250GB disks and they have been used correctly.

I used Winrar and looked at the downloaded tarball with it and it states the file is corrupt. I used Windows Explorer to grab the file from the ftp site. I am now using ftp from command prompt to see if the file downloads without corruption.

I downloaded 1.2 some 3-4 weeks ago. From what I see on ftp it is the same version since last year. Did you check md5 to make sure download was correct?

Once I downloaded via CLI had no issues doing the install, but now I do have an issue where it only formatted the /data01 partition and not the /data02 & /data03. I did edit the ave-part.sh script to reflect the .5TB install and that seemed to go fine although I did not watch the entire process. There is over 300GB of space remaining in the ESX datastore after the 3 partitions were created so I know it is not a space issue. Wanted to see if you have seen this before, but I am also attempting a re-install today. Thanks!

Well figured out my issue with the help of EMC support using the .5TB section of the ave-part.sh does not work with the 1TB tarball. Support gave me the download for the .5TB edition tarball. Thanks!

I am assuming so for 1.0 we cannot run 1.1 or 1.2 no 64 Bit hardware available for my testing.

There are two tarballs!? Are you sure. I was told there was one since 1.1 and with 1.2 it worked for me for 0.5TB installation (the only difference is which ave-part you run, but both should be within same tarball available from ftp.

Ah ok, that makes more sense now. Indeed, for 1.0 there are two tarballs.
