The NASDB backup file in nasadmin home directory should contain all the required backup data. It would be prudent to save a copy of this file off site or to backup/tape on a regular basis. This backup file is created automatically every hour. I have a cron job that copies that and other custom scripts I have written to a qtree on a production volume that is backed up to tape. This process was a life saver once when EMC support had to rebuild the NAS DB, they were very happy we had a copy on tape, since all local backup copies had the corruption.
besides grabbing nasdb_backup.1.tar.gz from /nas/var/backup ..what else are you backing up ? I am also exporting usermapper (user/group) as well as grab "/nas/rootfs/slot_2/.etc/usrmapper/usrmap.settings" file.
Other than the NASDB file, I just backup two folders that contain custom scripts to record performance data and other reporting/alerting scripts. exporting the usernmapper data is a very good idea asI am pretty sure that is not included in the NAS DB backup. I am not 100% sure what is all included in the nasdb backup, but for people that are looking for export information you can script to record the output of "server_export ALL", or backup the two files in /nas/server/slot_x/ for each DM, or VDM for cifs shares only.
export
export.shares
if you have VDMs the location of the export.shares is slightly different.
or backup the two files in /nas/server/slot_x/ for each DM, or VDM for cifs shares only.
export
export.shares
Please be careful. export and export.shares should be included in the nasdb Backup files.
BUT: export.shares does no longer reflect all actually configured cifs shares. This was changed since the introduction of the sharedb (NAS 4.0). If you want all cifs shares, use server_export ..... -P cifs -list.
On the systems I have checked, export.shares does only contain the global shares, but does not contain shares restricted to a individual comp- /netbios name.
One thing i new is missing in the NASDB backup, the cifs share rights
There is no file on the Controlstation containing the cifs share permission information
Thanks for the clarification. I am still stuck on dart 5.5 as we have not upgraded any systems to 5.6 yet. If the data is included in the NAS CD backup, then there is no need to copy/backup the config files directly.
