At the SAN level - all volumes on a Compellent are thin provisioned (Dynamic capacity).

I'm pretty sure that in really old code you could make it thick but it's not available anymore.

I'm curious as to why you would want to thick provision a Compellent volume? The data is wide striped across all volumes and there is a constant RAID scrub process that continually optimally places data on the disks.

You can not make something Thick because that is simply not how a Compellent functions. You may reserve space if the concern is that they want to ensure a volume is never permitted to run out of space - but you will run into problems if you do that for all volumes.

It is absolutely not in the interest of the customer to do this wide spread.

One clarification - this has NOTHING to do with what you would do at the OS level. For example, picking thick provisioned in VMware doesnt change anything on the Compellent or how it works.
