OME does not receive the system up/down alerts, it is generated internally by OME when the connection state of the device changes. This alert is generated by OME, only when a status poll happens on the device under consideration.

If on-demand statusing is enabled, then on receiving any alert from the device, OME performs a status poll on the device. If there is any change in health or connection state then this internal alert is generated. 

If on-demand statusing is not enabled, then during every status poll cycle, OME will generate these internal alerts if there is a change in the state of the device.

do you mean I will not get an alert from ome if a system is down until the next status polling interval which by default its 1hour?

Yes, that is correct. If you click on Status schedule under "Discovery and inventory", there is an option to check "Enable OnDemand Poll". If that is selected, then what you need to make sure is your ESXi machine is configured to send alerts to OME system.

still not getting the alert when host is down. I shutdwn the host. on demand polling is checked. 

host is configured to send snmp traps to ome. 

You might try the Dell Troubleshooting tool (installed on the OME desktop) to test trap reception.  Or install Wireshark to ensure the alert is getting to the OME server.  Be sure you don't have 2 trap receivers running at the same time while doing this test.
