Cpu Drops

Hi all I have a Dell Inspiron 5378 with the following specs: 16 gb ram, 256 gb ssd, intel hd 620 graphics, intel i7 7500U and running on windows 10. Bought it in july 17 Lately, my laptop has been choppy and getting really slow at times on the most basic tasks, such as watching youtube videos, playing spotify and etc. tryed running the dell support assist program which scans and tests all of the laptops parts and everything seems to be fine also all drives are updated. what happens is that when im watching a video on youtube for example, is that my cpu speed drops to 0.5GHZ for about 20 secs and then goes back to 2.8GHZ. temps go from 60 when nothings running to 98 when the cpu drop is hard. (celsius) Dont know what anymore can be done to improve or fix this problem. I really need advice on this matter. if there's any more info needed to help solve this just tell me. Thanks alot in advance.

This sounds like a cooling problem and when the heat goes way up the CPU will slow down to try and avoid problems.

Laptops do not have all the cooling a desktop has and thus more susceptible to overheating.

First step may be to blow out any dust inside.  Second is make sure its located where it can get adequate cool air when in use.  They sell add on laptop cooler bases and something to consider.

hi, did all those things.. blew out dust on the vents and also bought a cooling pad and set it up at full power. sadly, it did not make any real difference. the situation stays the same.
