I am going to start computer with factory drive installed. SSD plugged in externally. Use Macrium Reflect to clone factory drive onto SSD.

Then install SSD.

I tried putting a SSD to replace the harddrive and got the same thing.

Try putting your drive in, Insert a Operating System Install CD or USB. Start computer.

It will fix the bios settings to detect it and set it up....joys of UEFI....no Legacy option in Bios.

If you installed a different drive it wont be detected.

You must insert an Operating system install CD or USB.

It will install operating system and tell Bios you have a hard drive.

Press F2 when starting when you see the Dell logo.

Look at “First HDD”, can you see your harddrive listed?

Go to Advanced, make sure SATA Operation is set to AHCI

Make sure Bios recovery options all enabled.

Go to “Boot”.

Boot option 1 should be onboard NIC

Boot option 2 should be onboard NIC

Boot option 3 should be Windows Boot Manager

I haven't installed another drive.

I don't actually have an operating system CD or USB. Windows 10 was pre-installed.

Would I be getting using a USB with the file from below?

Pressing F2 at start up takes you to Bios....those are the settings to look at first as listed above.

OK I have changed to AHCI (was on RAID on before)

Is this what you are referring to for first HDD?

Are you under warranty?

If so...dont touch nothing.

Go look at the Dell site for your laptop with drivers.

They just released a new Bios a few days ago and new firmware for your harddrive within the last month or so.

Could be a known problem.
