Help with Alienware R4 1070 performance
Hello all,
Recently purchased a 17 R4 with the 1070 and an i7-6700HQ.
Have some pretty shit frames in Dota 2 compared to my desktop with a 980.
The laptop is the 1080p version. I am averaging 88 fps in Dota 2, with dips down into the high 60's.
CPU temps reach a high of 72C. GPU reaches a high of 56C.
GPU load is between 27-31%. CPU load at 98%.
I use a 1440p 144HZ external monitor, so I'd like to get this up to par and use it as a desktop replacement untill I get a new GPU, but my desktop never drops under 100 frames. The laptop can't hit 100 on the 1080p 60hz built in monitor.
Is there anything I can do, or am I just SOL?
Does anyone else with the same/similar setup have the same performance, or is it just this laptop?

You have a fluid film with 24 fps. The film roll has to roll thru the projector.
If you could see 144 fps then waving your hand in front of your face very fast would not blur because you would be seeing the change like a slow motion camera. Bright light creates an afterimage in the eye. The same way you see light in your eye seconds AFTER the doctor shined a light into it. This afterlight makes it possible to see what was there seconds ago. Its also what makes interleaving possible with televisions and 525 lines. Even though single eye cells (rods and cones) may have their limitations due to their chemical reaction times and due to the distance to the brain, you cannot be sure how they interact or complement or synchronize. If 1 cell is able to perceive 10fps, 2 cells may be able to perceive 20fps by complementing one another. So don't confuse "The human eye" with "The cell". On a machine with a single user and a sustained interleaved render frame rate of 60 Hz, even 1990's LCD's exceed the maximum spatial frequency detection capability of the human Eye. The limit of human perception: There is no reason to show more frames per second than the viewer can perceive. The exact limit of human motion perception is well defined in scientific measurements, but it is generally agreed that there is an upper threshold (18 to 30fps) after which people can’t discern the difference. Human Eyes are not 300fps slow motion cameras.
Examples of How Different Frame Rates Are Used
Film is especially flexible in that it can be photographed and played back with a diverse range of speeds. Some examples are:

1 frame per hour: Extreme time-lapse photography.

1 frame per minute: Time-lapse photography and stop-motion animation.

18 frames per second: Early motion picture films.

24 frames per second: Worldwide standard for movie theater film projectors.

48 frames per second: Slow-motion photography (because it takes twice as long to play back in a 24 fps projector, the motion is twice as slow).

300+ frames per second: High-speed cameras for very slow-motion photography (often used for miniatures to make models seem larger on screen).

2500+ frames per second: Very high-speed cameras for special effects such as pyrotechnic photography and explosions.

Don't confuse FPS provided by the GPU with the monitor refresh rate.

Many limit GPU frame rate to 45 and allow the GPU to use its power to increase quality.

This is absolutely incorrect. I have a 144hz monitor and can very clearly distinguish between 60 and 120hz, let alone 30 to 120hz.
