Upgrading m17 r4 wireless
Hello,
I own a m17xR4 Alienware, i want to upgrade the wifi card to (I hope) match a new AC
router. Where could I find a compatibility list or something ? Is the Intel Tri-Band AC 17265 could be a good option or it can't fit in the laptop (form factor problem ?) ?
Thanks for any advice on this matter.

Maybe Eimy can post what cards were offered "back in the day" on that model? Have you looked in PDF manuals?
The reason you can't veer-away from that list much (on a laptop) is because the antennas are pre-installed. There is a certain number of them and their composition and length is tuned for those older radios.
Some manufacturers even "BIOS white-list" or only allow certain radios to be installed. I know HP does this on high-end business-class laptop models.
If you don't mind having a dongle, you can do as suggests. However, I would probably just go as fast as best internal card and antennas will allow. Then, I would just use a wire (because that is "truly fast").Dell Rockstar

Easiest Addon is to remove any internal unit and use USB WIFI.
You will need to daisy chain or upgrade your Base Router to Dual Band Wave 2 Router Like the Netgear Nighthawk Etc. NETGEAR AC5300 Nighthawk X8 Tri-Band WiFi Router (R8500-100NAS)
