Which Memory?

Hello All!

Since some time i am an owner of the Alienware m17x, first Version. I only got 4GB inside this machine and i would like to upgrade to 8GB (Maximum of this

one, as far as i know). I tried 2x8GB from Corsair (1333Mhz), BIOS see them, but i cant boot. The same with 2x4GB (also 1333Mhz). Can someone tell me

a 8GB Kit that will match inside the good old Machine?

Thanks in advance,

Andreas

Nice Easy way is using the Crucial Tool: www.crucial.com/systemscanner it scans your system and tells you the maximum supported (and makes some suggestions).

Oh Crucial also Guarantee the ram to work too, the says 8gb Kit is guaranteed http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listparts.aspx?model=M17x&Cat=RAM

Thankyou for the tip. Tried it out and Crucial said PC3-10600. Afaik this is 1333 Memory, or am i wrong? The ones i tried from corsair refused to work. With the "old" hynix rams the machine say 1333 in Bios. Also the bios can see the ram, but it boot a while and Crash than... I wonder whats wrong here? It would be nice if someone with the first m17x and 8GB could tell me, which ram she/he use. Im sick of ordering and send back over and over again.. :)

    Regards,

    Andreas

    Heya Chris,

    merry XMas!

Thanks alot. That Information will surely help. But i can't order them from this shop, cause the shipping would drive

me nuts, im living in Germany. But i think i can find them elsewhere. Thank you so much.

That may be match, cause the 2x2GB inside this machine are from hynix also.

    Thanks in advance! :)

    Regards,

    Andreas

the only advice I can give you is, I've ordered maybe 40x from Crucial (my AW is the only one running Vengeance 1833mhz), and had the odd DOA but they have always worked if they said it would. I've ordered for MacBooks, PC Laptops, and PC Desktops before now.

Crucials return policy is very simple also, I'd seriously give their 1333mhz 8gb Kit a try :)
