Bad Computer
This Dell Dim 8400 has had several main parts changed out by Dell techs at home. Six months and it still does not work correctly. Does Dell not care about local lemon laws?

When this happens, what is the reading of the power button LED, green, blinking green, solid amber, blinking amber?
What is the sequence of the diagnostic LEDs at the back of the case?Have you tried using Dell Diagnostics extended test, first, boot, then press F12 immediately. The the boot device list appears, highlight Boot to Utility Partition and press Enter. Use the Extended test. [ pick the test to run].
If you are unable to use the above, a set of five floppy diagnostics, can be download here.

Windows will no longer install. It report bad catalog read on the DVD. Repeated attempts to restart the install fail. The "other" boot image is gone due to the new hard drive.

DVD drive is giving up the ghost also. Tried to copy from the dvd before this went south. It would error when copying files to the hard drive. As far as I can see it is a total failure. They should have painted this thing yellow.:)
Just ran the five floppy set. I get an error code right off the bat. 0E00-0002 Not a dell system will not run....
Change the motherboard, ram, cpu, hard drive.
abcd all green
Round and Round we go.
Mark- This is my first time on the forum but I am desperate. My computer has not worked since early July.
Beginning before July 13, my computer may strange noises and froze. I recieved a variety of error messages.
After spending an inordinate amount of time holding (over 45 minutes) on the Dell 800 technical support line on several occasions, a Bantec technician was sent to my home to replace the memory and immediately left. No diagnostic testing was done. My computer froze. They sent another Bantac technican a week and a half later with a new hard drive and a new fan. My computer froze. Then they sent out a Bantec technican on Aug. 12 to replace my power supply whatever and gave me new memory again. (I previously told them I thought it was the motherboard but Dell techs said no it wasn't.) My computer froze. Throughout this they tell me to access their website , to download software, to reinstall software, to reset my memory chips, and numerous other instructions much of which I could not do since my computer would not boot up. Last week I was promised a new tower. Yesterday they figured out my problem and insisted it was my mother board.
I've had to take hours off from work to meet technicians, spend hours on the telphone holding and write probably 30 emails trying to get help.
Is the Dimension a bad design? Can you say Class Action?
