Computer won't start up
I have a dimension 2400, I bought it in july... When I left, the computer was on, when I came home it was off... so I hit the button and nothing... not a beep, no lights in the back , no nothing. I called dell they sent me a new power supply, I installed it, and it is still the same. So they said they sent the wrong one and sent the right one. I installed it, it still does the same thing. The only light is the green light on inside the computer on the motherboard. That is the one and only light, no beeps, nothing even tries to start or boot up. just one green light on the motherboard on the inside of the computer, and silence...

- You can try manually connecting the power switch (if you feel up to that).e
This may sound dumb, but are you sure you are getting proper power INTO the computer?
Do you have a voltmeter to check the voltages on the PS connectors?
I would try disconnecting removing everything (all cards and drives). Power up with just the motherboard and a HD. If that doesn't work, try just a drive or just the motherboard.
Peter - I have my old computer hooked up to the same cord... same monitor everything just switched the pc's out and it works fine. and this is the 3 power supply. so I was more or less going by what the dell guy said. He had me to take out the memory and the cards and modems and stuff and try it, and it still done the same, I have not disconnected any of the drives and just tried the motherboard or hd by itself. I might do that though. The new motherboard is on it's way . so I am thinking of doing the test on the power supply they give on here about the black and green and seeing if it works, anything else you can think of for me to try let me know.

POLAR 121,Hey let me know what you find out regarding your power supply problem. the same thing just happened to me last night, the computer ran fine all day went to get on last night and got no response from shake of the mouse, I tried to shut the computer down and noticed that no lights were on and it would not start back up. and I have only the green light on the MOBO come on when power is put to the unit, no fan, no lights on the back of the tower......If it was the MOBO send me the info where you purchesed and ect...thanks- It was the motherboard. I ordered it from dell, They told me it was the power supply. and I guess it could be, but for me it wasn't , and you just described the same symptons my had , exactly the same, I think they are having a run of motherboards. I have heard from over ten people with the same problem. I emailed dell and told them what the tech told me and what I needed and got a part number ( the tech should give you one if you can understand them, I couldn't so I had to have them email it to me) and I called the number they gave also and gave them the part number, they shipped the board and I put it in and it has worked fine ever since, matter fact, I'm on it now .. good luck with yours. they probably will want to try a power supply, Look on here and do a test where you jump the wires and see if the fan starts up on the power supply, if it does, change the board. Let me know how it goes

Did Dell charge you for the motherboard or did you get it free? If they charged you, I would take it up with customer service that, even though the system is out of warranty, it had been misdiagnosed under warranty and is therefore Dell's responsibility.
