Dell Optiplex 7010 Memory question
Hi all,
I need help with choosing some memory for my optiplex 7010 (the MT version, I7-3770 processor). Here's my concern:
After heavy research i've found that although all technical documentation states the 7010 can only go to 16 gig, I know that i you can in fact go to 32 gig with 4 8gig sticks (i'm not gaming, I do CAD work and need the memory).
I also know that I need to get 1600 ddr3 memory, and I know max voltage on the dell mb is 1.5v
SO, that being said, here's my concern:
I know with OEM mobo's we do not get the luxury of having a lot of tweaking capabilities in the Bios. A lot of "high end memory" requires either manual setting OR enabling XMP/DOCP/EOCP in BIOS/EFI...
So that being said, do you all have a good recommendation on the best ram sticks I can buy, but would still both post as 1600 without the need for XMP/etc AND be fast?

Avoid the super tall RAM sticks, they may not fit. Tried upgrading RAM on a 980 SFF box a while back and couldn't get the caddy installed because the heatsinks were too tall.
Some of the "gaming"/"OC" ram may not be the best choice. Stick with your typical RAM offering, and I recommend picking something with lifetime warranty (this is most manufacturers, G-SKILL, Kingston, Crucial, etc)
I was planning on picking up 4 of these sticks when Newegg had them for $64, unfortunately I missed the sale :( but it would be a good pick for 7010. These are low voltage too so it should run a bit cooler and use less electricity. However you can go with regular 1.5V voltage as they seem to be cheaper

I'm sorry all, I had a bad link in there before.. the above link should display all of the 4X8 gig packages.
I'm thinking what I most likely need to look at is a CL of 10 or 11. I'm pressure sure most memory with a Cas Latency of 9 will need me to activate XMP or similar..
Maybe this set of memory would be good?
