Dell xps8700 bios
I purchased a new Dell xps8700.
I copied the hard drive to a Sandisk SSD drive. Then I disconnected the power lead from the original drive and connected the SSD drive to a spare sata interface and changed the drive sequence accordingly in the bios.. Did not change anything else. Switched on the computer and it booted up immediately without any problems. Works great. lately I realized that when I switch on the computer, the bios options do not appear. I tried tapping the F2 button when starting but nothing happens, it just boots up direct to my desktop. If I try to insert a bootable usb or cd , I just get a blank screen and nothing happens. Is there a way to get into the bios by any other means ???
Win 8.1 boots very fast, even without an SSD boot drive. The problem is FastBoot. When you need F2 or F12, from Windows, select Shut Down while holding the Shift Key. This will disable FastBoot for the next boot and give you more time to hit the F-key. You can also shut FastBoot off in the UEFI BIOS.
Thanks for your info. Tried all that but did not work. I eventually disconnected all devices (and usb) from the computer and presto , I was able to enter the bios again. hope this info might help someone else who had the same problem as I did. Thanks again

With the SSD in it is too fast to see the F2 notice. However if you keep hitting F12 once you power on you should see the menu of drives you can boot as well as diagnostics and BIOS entry.
