Dimension E510 lockup
I just got a new Dimension E510 for two days and the system keeps lockup everytime I tried to
use. The whole system would lock up and I have to restart by pull the power core from the back.
I called Dell supports and they walked me thru the system test, but did not find anything wrong.
I finally asked for a replacement. However I am just curious if anyone have the same problem with
their E510.
thanks,
ricky

I had the exact same issue. Right out of the box the system would not work properly. I ran the diagnostics test with Dell support (twice) and the only issue that came up was with DIMM 2 - Error Code 2F00:0419. (whatever that means). I removed the memory in the hope that that was the issue and restarted but the computer still didn't work.
I'm still hoping to be able to send my computer back to Dell for a replacement (after 2-3 hours with tech support I don't have much confidence in the computer) but they haven't been that helpful. I lot of runaround and forwarding to yet another technical support person. No one seems to believe me that the computer doesn't work. I had hoped to have this system for the kid tomorrow but now I'm just hoping to get another system. I'm still waiting for a return call from Tech support - that was to occur over an hour ago.

- Is your new E510 come with XP MCE OS? Mine has XP MCE OS with TV tuner, X-Fi PCI Sound Card and 128MB ATI Radeon X300 video card.I am not sure which piece of the hardware cause the problem. I did not want to take it all apartsince it is still under Dell warranty. Hopefully the new replacement that Dell will send mewon't have any problem. As for now I can't even turn on my E510 and leave it on for more than 30 minutes. It will lockup itselfand I have to unplug the power from the back.thanks,-ricky
I have had my E510 since the first of October and it runs beautifully - have not had any problems. (knock on wood! LOL)
I hope you get your replacement soon and everything is fine with it. I love my E510! I also just bought an i6000 laptop and love it as well. I guess I am fortunate in buying two Dell computers and have not had any problems with either one. I love them both!
Good luck and keep us posted!
:smileyhappy:
- Same problem here, system is new out of the box and when booting freezes up during the "Dell" screen, f2/f12 are unresponsive, I have to power off and after about 3 or 5 tries it boots successfully. Anyone have any ideas? This is our 3rd Dell pc this year and the first problem we've had.

Anything is possible with a new PC. Although your problem is not a common problem, it's hard to tell exactly what it is. Could be a cable came loose in shipping, a PCI card is loose (not fully seated), could be the software load had a problem, etc.
Occasionally a new PC will require a complete reload of the software due to something getting "glitched" during the initial startup/load. That would be the first thing to try, since it's new and you haven't added any software, customization, etc. Use the Dell supplied restore procedure (I'm not sure exactly how to do that but I've seen the instructions posted on the Windows XP software section several times). Even if Dell is going to replace it, the reload is an option to try, unless you just want to wait for the replacement PC.
