On a reinstall Dell drivers need to be installed, not default drivers that Windows/Microsoft will install and most likely the problem.
On a install/reinstall, the correct and required install sequence is (1) Install Windows (2) Install Dell Desktop System Software (3) Install motherboard chipset drivers (4) Install device drivers including video, Dell sound drivers, ethernet, etc.
If you have lost the Dell Drivers and Utilities disc that came with the PC, you can download everything you need from the Dell downloads. One issue with sound drivers, on most Dell's the motherboard chipset drivers MUST be installed BEFORE the sound drivers or they will not install.
In reference to the video, the "AUTO" option is the correct setting. If a separate PCIeX16 video card is installed it automatically sets that up.

First, remove your service tag number...
done
Second that is the correct driver.
really?
What is the problem or what did you do to require the reinstallation of the audio driver?
the error in device manager reads (note: there are four of these messages): Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus
Did you do a reinstall?
yes, i reinstalled audio drivers
If you will provide some info on the problem maybe we can help
upgraded BIOS to 1.1.11, turned off internal VGA in the BIOS, inserted new video card (NVIDIA GeForce GT 220), reformatted HDD and reinstalled WXP Pro...from a MS CD. Everything worked great (all drivers were found) except audio
note: audio works when single jack is plugged into light green audio jack receptacle in back of tower
over to you

thanx for the advice. unfortunately after trying everything mentioned i'm still left with the audio error(s) in device manager
but then i got wise. pulled the nvidia card out and errors went away. so now i can conclude it's an issue with nvidia, not dell
will keep ya posted as to the latest progress
all the best

problem solved. uninstalled nvidia drivers, then reinstalled from cd. went to windows driver updates page and downloaded recommended nvidia drivers. conflict(s) went away. lessen ofthe day: when installing wxp on a recently formatted hdd, do NOT install aftermarket video card. wait until wxp has been installed and upgraded. then install video card. now we know. take care

First, remove your service tag number, that is forbidden on the forum (did you read the forum terms of service before posting?).
Second that is the correct driver. What is the problem or what did you do to require the reinstallation of the audio driver? Did you do a reinstall?
If you will provide some info on the problem maybe we can help.
