Epson Scanner Problem?

I just received a new Dell system. I have an Epson Perfection 1640SU scanner with USB cable. I had major problems with the in-home installation and the technician (after NOT properly installing the system, which crashed) said "It's the scanner." No explanation, he just uninstalled it and left. (That is another issue, I'm just gathering information to resolve it.)

Although I had contacted both Dell (in my innocence) and Epson, both of whom said there wouldn't be any issues with the scanner, I want to be sure there isn't a known problem with it before I proceed. (In any case, how would the technician "know" to blame the scanner without testing anything?)

It's obvious that I won't receive a straight answer on scanner compatibility from Dell, but I'm hoping someone on this board has heard something (or not.)

Thanks.

It sounds very much like my problem. I have the original CD but according to Epson I also need to download an updated driver. (Not possible at the moment because my hard drive/motherboard have been determined by Dell to be defective. Waiting for a new one....) Dell doesn't sell scanners, to my knowledge, only the all-in-ones, which I don't want. (I already have a fax machine and printer.)

It's beginning to look like there are compatibility issues with many peripherals. Great.

    Thanks for your input.

I have come to the conclusion that my original CD would not solve the problem.  I am going to refer the matter to Dell, as I am convinced there is no problem with the scanner.

    Thanks for your reply.
